I can now officially report that yarrow does indeed help to stop a wound from bleeding. I’ve known this in theory for a long time but only recently experienced it firsthand.
Fortunatly or unfortunately depending on whether you are a “glass half full” or “glass half empty” type, my fingertip got a little too friendly with a kitchen knife & was bleeding profusely, but I had picked a few yarrow plants that afternoon which were conveniently laying on the kitchen counter. I chewed up a few frilly leaves & held them to the gusher, and thankfully it began to slow.
It is not an experience I am looking to repeat, but it certainly did come in handy.
